Runtime Error in Install on Windows Server 2000 SP4

Postby Sheri_Steeves » Wed Nov 06, 2013 12:27 pm

Hello

Upgrading to IA18 fixed my error on Windows 2000 (http://www.installaware.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=9751) but now I am getting an error on Windows 2000 Server SP4. :(

When I run any of my installs on Windows Server 2000 SP4 I get the error message “Runtime error in install: Not enough storage is available to process this command.” - see image below. This problem may have existed with IA17, I hadn't tested the install on Windows 2000 Server at that point.

I added some message boxes at the beginning of my script but the error appears before the installer gets to them. My install is a single-file compressed exe.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Sheri

Dear Sheri,

so are you saying that you found this issue when running the package on WIN Serv 2000 SP4 only?

Could you send anything that I can test?

Dear Sheri,

could you please try with using the current IA 18.01 update?

Fransesco,

I'm currently running IA18 Build 10.23.13 Santa Catalina Thomas; version is 18.0.0.2013 in Programs and Features list.

Is there a newer build after this? I wanted to confirm as it is a very large download. Also, will I need to re-run the licensing again if I install IA18.01?

Dear Sheri,

yes, the IA 18.01 version currently available is newer that the one you seem to have installed.

In your case to update your version, it is just enough to re-generate your personal license file and then to run it on the machine where your IA 18 product is installed.

Francesco,

Updating to 18.01 did not solve my problem. :(

I am still getting the error message “Runtime error in install: Not enough storage is available to process this command.” when I run any of my installs on Windows Server 2000 SP4.

I created a small test project that contains only a text and PDF file; and creates a shortcut to the PDF file in the start menu - with this project I get the same error.

I can email or upload this project to you if you need me to.

Franscesco,

Any update on this? I noticed 18.2 was just released last week.

Dear Sheri,

please accept my apologies for the delay.

Unfortunately the minimum supported OS with the latest IA "UNICODE " versions is WIN XP.

Due the fact that you specified the service pack 4, I mistakenly assumed that there were no problems with the other WIN 2000 configurations.
Instead I was totally wrong ... I knew the answer and I should have said that previously.

Francesco,

If I can only build installs that run on Windows XP and up, why let me choose the minimum requirements down to Windows 95? That would have been my first clue that I can't build installs for Windows 2000.

I also had to search pretty hard to find your reference to the fact that InstallAware installs only support Windows XP and up. The only reference I could find was in a press release on your website. It was not listed as part of the What's New for 16 in your on-line help. After that the only indication was the fact that the documented 'Get OS or SP Level' values starts at XP.

As a software developer I understand that as new OS's are released support for the older ones will eventually drop off; a bit more clarity when these things happen would be good.

Dear Sheri,

If I can only build installs that run on Windows XP and up, why let me choose the minimum requirements down to Windows 95?

This has been left to maintain backward compatibility when using previous IA version projects within the new IDE.

As developer you should know that even other well know developments tool have currently the same restriction.
Probably we missed to place an additional note about this in our documentation and it was not intentional.
