Postby tzachk » Mon Dec 30, 2013 10:55 am

Hi,

How can I alter the value of the comment property of a generated msi file?

Dear Tzachk,

if I haven't missed your question;

"The Summary, UAC, and ISO page lets you customize the properties that are written to your setup database and executable files, and are visible in Windows Explorer tool tips and property pages. This page also lets you manually set the requested UAC elevation level. You may also set the ISO/IEC 19770-2:2009 software identification (SWID) tag for your application here."

Hi Francesco,

My question is different.
I want to expose the product version number in the msi file properties. For the setup.exe it is their, but msi files do not expose product version field in their properties->details pane.
Some vendors use the comments field as a place to show the software version, and I want to do the same. The current valuie of the comments field is "Powered by InstallAware."

TZach

Dear TZach,

Honestly, I don't know which update you was waiting for.

I am able to modify the contents "comment" property in "The Summary, UAC, and ISO" page ... and this is reported in the file details property for the generated MSI.

Dear Francesco,

The comments in the "The Summary, UAC, and ISO" page influence only the resulting executable installer. Not the MSI installer. In the MSI installer the comment stays as "Powered by InstallAware.".
What do I need to do to change the comment in the MSI, not the exe.

Dear Tzach,

I am exactly doing that and the text entered with "comment" property in "The Summary, UAC, and ISO" page, it is reported with the MSI file as well.

Honestly, I am using IA 18 and I don't know if it could exist a different behavior with previous IA versions.

Alternatively, you can modify that value using ORCA ("Summary Information" under Orca View Menu).

Dear Francesco,

We are currently using IA 12, and it doesn't work.
We bought IA 18, and we shall start using it with our next version. I hope it shall solve this.

Tzach
