Download eval edition vs. editions being sold

I'm a little confused. I downloaded and installed the eval edition a few weeks ago. So tonight I'm looking over the choices as to what to buy (1 developer license). Obviously I am not interested in more capability than I need, yet when I look at the feature list, it's not clear how the evaluation relates to the Express edition at all. In particular, I'm not sure how I could do anything productive without no plug-ins (already had to use an alternate plug-in to make SQL work), no 2-way editing, and no scripting. So what exactly am I viewing in the eval edition and is there any way to eval the Express? Thanks

You choose your edition in the install wizard while installing. If you choose Express, you will be evaluating the Express experience.

If you are using plug-ins, you will need Developer.
