InstallAware 6.5: Bug Fixes and Workarounds

Common Animations on Vista: Microsoft removed common animations inside shell32.dll on Windows Vista. These animations were available in InstallAware setups through the Animate control, and used in several pre-built dialog themes. Setups could no longer display the removed animations.

New stock animations are now bundled with the setup engine, which are displayed on Vista. Animations from shell32.dll are still used on older operating systems.

Vista Uninstalls with Flash Billboards: The Windows Installer APIs returned an error code when attempting uninstalls on Vista with an interactive Flash Billboard showing.

An alternate set of APIs are now used, working around this issue which occured only on Vista when Flash Billboards were used.

Feature Sizes on Localized Setups: Localized setups sometimes displayed incorrect feature sizes.

This issue has now been resolved, and feature sizes are displayed correctly when using localized setups.

Self Extractor Character Support: Non-English characters in the setup self-extractor caused an error message to be displayed before extraction began. This was not an issue for the remainder of setup.

Non-English characters are now supported in the self-extractor.

Group Policy Server Install: Deploying a Group Policy MSI file through Active Directory caused the MSI to be unintentionally installed on the server as well, while editing the group policy object.

This unintentional installation has been fixed.

Missing Custom Shortcut Icons: When using custom icons for shortcuts, Windows Installer occasionally misplaced the icons, especially during repeated install/uninstall cycles of the same product on the same system.

InstallAware now works around this Windows Installer issue, forcing the correct application of custom shortcut icons every time.
