Comparison with Wise for Windows Installer

Postby daniel347x » Mon Nov 14, 2005 7:50 am

Hello,

In comparing InstallAware with Wise for Windows Installer, I see some actions appear in Wise's MSI script that do not seem to appear in InstallAware's script.

For example, CCPSearch, and also a check for File Prerequisites. There may be others.

Do these things take place automatically in an installation built using InstallAware, or does the default Wise MSI script perform more operations?

Just curious and thanks for your response,

Dan N

It would be a better comparison with Wise for Win32 (non Windows Installer). InstallAware's scripting more closely resembles Wise Win32 and is a lot more powerful than Wise's script-like representation on the Windows Installer side.

You can think of InstallAware being a better Wise for Windows Installer than Wise itself. The Win32 script of Wise was very intuitive and powerful. Unfortunately the Windows Installer version is completely incompatible and tries to represent native Windows Installer actions as a script, which is rather confusing, inflexible, and unpowered compared to their great Win32 script.

InstallAware lets you use Win32 style Wise scripting, and generate Windows Installer packages from your script - the best of both worlds, a unique fusion approach.
