Moving from InstallShield: Basic questions

Post by Azalin »

I am trying to convert an InstallShield setup to InstallAware. I have a few basic questions.

1. In InstallShield, I could display a localized bitmap on in the dialog.

DialogSetInfo ( DLG_INFO_ALTIMAGE, SUPPORTDIR ^ "banner.bmp", TRUE );

How can I do this with InstallAware to change the left banner and top banner based on the selected installation language?

In fact, is it possible to load the Read Me and the EULA during runtime instead of having to 'hardcode' it? (See #2 below as to why)

2. Is it possible to have a Language menu before the installation starts that will determine the language of the installation and the components to be installed.

Thank you, I am sure there are solutions and it will get me started as to where to search for the rest.

Hi Azalin,

The help file localization topics describe how to display localized readme/license files in each language - you just add each file to your project as a support file and the installer will sniff and display the correct ones at runtime. Ditto for the language selection box. So I suggest you review the help topics for localization in your online help.

Unlike InstallShield, nothing is hard-coded in InstallAware dialogs, so it doesn't make sense to switch bitmaps with a script command when InstallAware cannot know which bitmap represents the wizard graphic. The good news is, you can still add all bitmap resources directly on your dialogs, and author dialog rules based on the language to selectively hide/show them.
