Physical memory check

Post by DanielSundbergTobiiTech »

We have the following block in our install script:

Code: Select all

Comment: Check system has at least 1 GB Physical Memory
Get System Setting 1 GB Physical Memory into CHECKSYSTEM
if Variable CHECKSYSTEM not Equals TRUE
MessageBox: $TITLE$ Setup Warning, Our software is recommended to be run on computers with at least 2 GB Physical Memory.$NEWLINE$$NEWLINE$
  end
However, we want to check for at least 1.5GB of memory (our memory requirements are 2GB but we would like to allow people with integrated graphics boards to install). What we want to accomplish is similiar to what is mentioned in the following forum post:

http://www.installaware.com/forum/viewt ... cal+memory

That solution doesn't seem very maintainable to me, is there a more simple solution to my problem? Today I'm using InstallAware 8 (build time 090408) and I can only choose 1 GB and 2 GB in the dropdown.[/quote]

It's a pretty good solution actually?

Perhaps it's a good solution, but cut'n'paste to MSI code deosn't seem like a very maintainable solution to me.

We're generating our installer on a build server. This would require some patching and text parsing to be performed before building the installer. Who will be able to fix this in 18 months when something brakes or we decide to change the memory requirements?

Well, it's not for me to decide if it's a good solution or not, I just wanted to make sure that I havn't missed something obvious.

Patching and text parsing? I'm not sure I understand why you think using MSIcode is bad. Your entire setup project is actually MSIcode-only - the visual UI just generates it for you in the background.
