Creatives: can they be dynamically linked?

Post by keith »

Hello,

[Using IA 6.5 on Win7]

Here's the situation: I have two files (other IA installers) that I include as Creatives in a top-level project, and all are under active development. But when you add Creatives they are copied into the IA project directory immediately and are never updated unless you re-add them.

This can easily result in stale versions of the Creatives being build into the installer.

This is another case where a post-build script ability would be really handy; I could just copy these two installers from their build dirs into the top-level project dir.

But aside from that, is there a way to dynamically link Creatives so I don't have to keep re-adding them or copying them by hand to the top-level project?

Sorry, none. You can use File Bag - but that won't go inside $SUPPORTDIR$.

This would be a nice addition in a future version.

It would. I believe the first request for it was back in '05.

build management

Post by MarkRichards »

Another option is to use a build management tool to do this sort of thing. We use FinalBuilder, but there are many options available.

Within our FinalBuilder project, we update our InstallAware project folders with the latest support files (e.g. "creatives") prior to execution of the installer build processes.

Agree that post-build within IA would be useful, but just wanted to pass along the thought.
