Using the back button to move to earlier dialog not working.

Post by avbhoyar »

I have an application that is packaged using InstallAware. I recently added a new dialog to the installer. I added the dialog to the project by right clicking the 'Dialogs' icon in the left pane of InstallAware Developer and then clicking on 'Add dialogs to project'.
We use labels to mark the start of the block of code to display the dialog and handle data validation for each dialog. I added a new label to the main ".mia" script file to write code for this new dialog just after the label and code representing an existing dialog. The following code was added to the new label to move back to the earlier dialog when 'Back' button is pressed.

if Variable WIZARD Equals BACK
GoTo Label: Setup DG Database Account
else
if Variable WIZARD Equals CANCEL
GoTo Label: Main Install
end
end

The above code should take back to label "Setup DG Database Account" that displays the 'Database Setup' Dialog. But this does not happen. Instead the back button takes the installer back to a dialog earlier to 'Database Setup' dialog. In our case this dialog is the 'DestinationFolder' dialog. So, it looks like that 'Back' button of the new dialog is imitating the 'Back' button of 'Database Setup' Dialog as the 'Back' button of 'Database Setup' Dialog takes us back to 'DestinationFolder' dialog. I would like to mention here that I had copied and renamed the mia and miaf file of 'Database Setup' Dialog to the new dialog name as I wanted to use the background and structure from 'Database Setup' Dialog. However I changed the controls within the new dialog.

Any idea why this is happening?

Everything ought to be fine based on your description. Debug the script to see why the label jump is going to the wrong place.

Debugging a pain

Post by avbhoyar »

Debugging InstallAware script has been painful as ever. And this time it is more severe. I cannot get past a condition which is true even after commenting out that conditions. The condition always evaluates to false and the installer terminates.

Set Variable NET35INSTALL to
Set Variable DOTNET35 to
Read Registry Key HKLM\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\NET Framework Setup\\NDP\\v3.5\\Install into NET35INSTALL
Comment: MessageBox: $TITEL$, The .NET framework version is $NET35INSTALL$
Comment: if Variable NET35INSTALL not Equals 1
Comment: Set Variable PREREQ to TRUE
Comment: Set Variable DOTNET35 to FALSE
Comment: end
[compiler end]
<<Code>>

[DEFINE REGION: Install Application Pre-Requisites]
Comment: Install setup pre-requisites
Comment: Set Variable PREREQ to FALSE
if Variable PREREQ not Equals FALSE
if Variable DOTNET35 Equals FALSE
MessageBox: $TITLE$ Setup, ***
Terminate Installation
end
Display Dialog: prereq (if variable SILENT is FALSE), wait for dialog to return (modal)
if Variable WIZARD Equals CANCEL
Terminate Installation
end

Not sure how to fix the debug in order to debug my original issue.

The debug is probably fine. I suspect it is your localizations that are jamming things. See my related post for details:
