Displaying list of Database Servers...

Post by serina »

Hi,

I'm creating a setup for DB Installer and I would like to know where shall I get the Database Server for my installation purpose. I've actually created a 'Browse' button in one of the dialogs and I wants the 'Browse' button to display the list of database servers found in my local in order for me to choose and restore the particular server. I can perform this action using InstallShield but not sure about InstallAware.
Will really appreciate if someone could give a feedback regarding this issue.

Thank you..

Regards

Take a look at the built in SQL Connections sample.

hi..

During my setup installation, I'm receiving Error:"The Window Installer service cannot update the system file C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\odbcjt32.dll because the file is protected by windows. You may need to update your operating system for this program to work correctly."
The installation hangs just like that once i press the OK button. It doesn't complete the installation process fully.

I've tried to update my windows as well...but yet it showing the same error over and over....hmmm...I'm spending all my time figuring this but just couldn't solve it!.....What shall i do now??

You should remove that system protected file from your installer. Find the Microsoft update that is the actual installer for it and call that file from your setup instead. Otherwise, as you have found out, Microsoft's system protection will block your installation.

alright....thanks for the solution Michael!

Currently I'm facing another problem regarding choosing the selected server during my installation process. There is only one database server which shows 'connection successful' when connected using SQL Server authentication where else all the other server showing 'connection failed'. This problem shouldn't occur since the other servers in the list are valid ones. I should be able to choose and connect to my preferred servers rite!

Is there any settings or scripts that i need to change in order to resolve this problem??

By the way, I want to know whats the purpose/function of the group of operation "Split at first occurrence of pattern" and so on in the 'Parse String' command.

Thanks..

If you're not getting replies from InstallAware, and the community, then it might help to review:

http://www.installaware.com/support-service-options.htm

For instance, the URL above contains information on how to find answers to some of the questions in your previous post.
