Cancel uninstallation on windows server 2008

Post by ElenaN »

I run into strange behavior of installer on Windows 2008 server OS (x64). It was reproduced with two different installers of two different products, both installers are created using InstallAware of course.

In my installers I use special dll for Custom Actions. This dll is included to project as support file and called via “Call DLL function” plugin. Let’s name this dll helper.dll.

So here is the issue description:
1. Product was installed successfully
2. Uninstallation was launched, but cancelled even before going to progress dialog. I mean: I saw maintenance dialog, decided to not remove the product this time and pressed Cancel.
3. Next time I tried to launch uninstallation (no matter using UNINSTALLLINK or original installer package) it failed to use helper.dll (DLLLOADFAILED). This dll should be called in many places but was called in none of them.

To get rid of the isuue I should uninstall product, do all helper’s actions manually and install again.

Also sometimes (not on regular basic) next message appears:
---------------------------
My _PRODUCT_TITLE
---------------------------
%1 is not a valid Win32 application, ClassID: {56FDF344-FD6D-11D0-958A-006097C9A090}.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

Is it InstallAware bug?

In case someone will need it too - I get rid of the issue after replacing all persistent variables in project with usual ones (of course I also added my way to make usual variables “persistant”).

And if IA is interested in reproduce details here they are:
1) I created almost empty project with IA Project Wizard (it installs only one file).
2) added to this project my custom actions dll as support file
3) added call of one function from my dll using Call DLL plugin. The function returns bool value in variable. This variable was declared before by Set variable to FALSE.
4) added one persistent variable (in this test it was variable which wasn’t used anywhere, only declared as persistent)
5) also just in case I added Does File Exist check for my dll in support dir
6) added test message box to be able to see return values of “Does File Exist” and my dll function
Then I built installer (tried both full and web) and run the scenario from first post in this topic - the issue was reproduced: installer “sees” the dll according to “Does File Exist”, but Call DLL function returns DLLLOADFAILED after cancel of uninstall (during first launch of uninstaller before that cancel everything is OK). Issue was gone after making persistent variable non-persistant.
I experienced the issue on Windows Server 2008 x64-bit and Windows Server 2003 x64-bit. My installer is 32-bit. But the issue is not reproducible on Windows Vista x64-bit (for example).
Let me know if you need more info or more clear description.

ElanaN,

Are you still experiencing this problem? I have not been able to reproduce it using the project found at:
http://www.installaware.com/forum/viewt ... f=2&t=5377

If you are still having problems, can you reproduce it using the test project found in the link above? How about with a system dll (system32.dll->CopyFileA)? Also, what version of InstallAware are you using?
