web blocks and compiler variables

Post by KenRichard »

Are there compiler variables that can be used to control the "Skip on Build" checkboxes with each web media block? I want to setup command line scripts for "quick" and "full" builds.

Nobody ever replied to this and rather than start a new thread I am picking up on this one.

I fully understand how to use the GUI to control "exclude from build" on the web media definition.

How can we control this via command-line? I don't think it is possible, but personally I think it is a missing feature.

Simple; just use compiler variables to conditionally include and exclude parts of your code. So you can set those compiler variables at build time, and they would include or exclude the identical weblock statements - differing only in the check-box states.

You can use something like this:

Code: Select all

[compiler if Variable BUILD_FEAT Equals 1]
   [DEFINE WEB MEDIA component_Name]
   [compiler else]
[DEFINE WEB MEDIA component_Name, Exclude from Build]
   [compiler end]
where BUILD_FEAT means build with media blocks.

However having more easy way to control this behavior would be appreciated. At least i would have less lines of code.

BTW, don't panic if IA's designer will break or mess up. Frankly, i've already refused using it. It works well for projects bit more complex than "Hello World", but as for huge installations it doesn't, imo (2 years of using IA).

Hope this helps.
