Multiple Web Media block same feature

Post by kadourah »

Hi,
I was wondering if it's possible to have multiple web media blocks for one feature, for example for a particular feature, we have multiple files that take a lot of space and we want those to be downloaded on demand, is it possible identify files to be in a separate media block within one feature?

thanks,
Cal

Dear Cal,

If I haven't missed your exact question, you can define as many WEB MEDIA BLOCK as you want.

In your case, when a particular feature have to be installed, create a WEB MEDIA BLOCK for each component in your MSI script.

For example;

Code: Select all

if Variable MYFEATURE Equals TRUE
  [DEFINE WEB MEDIA MyBlock 1]
  Install Files xxxxxx to $TARGETDIR$
  [DEFINE WEB MEDIA MyBlock 2]
  Install Files xxxxxx to $TARGETDIR$
end
Hope this helps you.

Thanks for the reply, I might be doing something wrong, but when I run the installer and it reaches the point to extract the files the installer launches the Retry download dialog I click on "Try to Resume.." or "Download a new copy.." but neither one is working. I structured my code exactly as outlined, and I can access the download URL. Am I doing something wrong?

thank you,
Cal

Dear Cal,

please verify that you are using the correct media blocks which you are referring with you setup package.
To avoid any possible error, try to rebuild your package. In this way media blocks also will be regenerated.

Then verify that file extension of the media blocks you are using it is correctly handled by your Web Server.
In some cases 7ZIP (default Media Block extension) is not allowed by default by the Web Server and needs to be specified.
As alternatively use the zip extension and update the WEB MEDIA BLOCK command setting consequently.

Hope this helps you.
