While I can add new file extension associations my attempt to associate an existing file extension with my application silently fails. I have a very vanilla, simple installer. Here is the line I have in my msi script,
DOES NOT WORK:
Create File Type TIF File with extensions .TIF and associate with program $TARGETDIR$\myapp.exe
WORKS:
Create File Type TIFX File with extensions .TIFX and associate with program $TARGETDIR$\myapp.exe
The .TIF extension is already associated with Windows Photo Viewer. I know this was working earlier but I cannot figure out what change caused it to stop working. I've taken out some of the dialogs I don't want/need in this simple installer. While I'm waiting for a reply I guess I'll add them back in and see if that helps.

Re: Updating file extension associations
Dear User,
Honestly, I never tried to do the same and I am not quite sure if the existing association must be first removed ... let me try and I will be back.

Re: Updating file extension associations
Thanks for looking at this Francesco. I've done some more investigating and found that it is only an issue for one userid on one machine. This is odd in itself but it looks like it is OK everywhere except my development sign-on on my development machine. I'm going to wait a while before chasing this up further to see if it happens elsewhere.
