Web application/service deployment best practices

Postby ErikB » Wed Aug 02, 2006 4:29 am

Hi,

Needless to say I find IA a wonderful product. Using IA, we've finally managed to put a smile on our SysAdmins faces while installing our core product. That alone makes me say: thank you very much! :)

Something that has been bugging me for a while now is creating installer packages for web applications or web services. As far as I can discern, the only option available is to specify in advance the Web Site you wish to install under. What I am looking for is to be able to specify Web Site, virtual directory and port at install time (i.e. from user input). In a VS setup, you simply enter the port number and it will miraculously appear in the right Web Site etc. This is the functionality I am looking for (or rather, my SysAdmins, but I'd like them to keep smiling ;)).

Now, I might just be missing these options (as I cannot imagine they're not there) in which case a pointer in the right direction would be very welcome.

On the same topic, are there any best practices when it comes to these kinds of installations? Or maybe walk-throughs?

Cheers,
Erik

Hi Erik,

Please review these commands:

Get IIS Site Index
Create IIS Site
Create Virtual Folder

Press F1 for more information when the command window is showing.
