I added *.svn-work to the list of wildcards:

*entries*;*format*;*.svn-base;*.svn-work

This works great until *entries*;*format* filters out legitimate files. It can be worked around, but I think it would be nice to be able to exclude a specific folder name such as ".svn", or at least specific file names like this:

entries;format;*.svn-base;*.svn-work

The exclude wildcards option requires you to use wildcards in the file names.

I use CVS and not SVN but it is basically the same. I have a hidden CVS directory I am trying to exclude. I saw on another post a good solution that works. For the exclude wildcard use:

Code: Select all

*\\CVS\\*
I'm sure you could do the same for SVN by using:

Code: Select all

*\\.svn\\*

I'm not sure it matters that you understand why, but I do need them.
In trying to help you and offer workarounds (or convince the team that the feature has wide appeal), I need to know your situation. I'm afraid in this case your folder issue is a bit isolated, so as best as I have been able to understand it, this wouldn't be a compelling feature for the majority of our users. But stay tuned for the other item!
Hi Michael, I was browing through the forums because I'm having a problem of an empty folder not being installed by version 9. The purpose behind our empty folder is for log files. So our directory structure looks like

C:\\Program Files\\Company\\App
under there we have the folders and files
\\bin
\\log
exe related files

The log folder is empty and will get written to by log4net. Granted, there are other ways to handle logging and the correct way would be for the logging program to create the folder but the code doesn't have necessary permissions to create a folder. So we end up getting no log files written.

It is easy enough to add the Create Folder in MSICode but when we create a new App we have to remember to do that even though our folder structure that we have IA pick up from includes the empty folder.

My installers, too, need to be able to install many empty folders. Unfortunately I have to create them individually in the installer, as InstallAware will not recognise them as items which must be installed. It would be nice if this were an option in future.

I also had the a problem with .svn folders and content were being installed.

I did not find that the ignore filter *\\.svn\\* worked for me. Rather a shame as it looks an ideal solution.
I have ended up with
*entries*;*.svn-base;*all-wcprops*
(I did not need *format*, but needed to add *all-wcprops*)

However I am worried that any files whose names contain the string 'entries' will be silently omitted from the installation, causing problems which might not be picked up during test phase.

Please can I request that InstallAware implements a better way of ignoring SVN folders, and also request the option to install empty folders without needing to make them individually.
Of course if these things are already possible, please could someone let me know.

I'd like to add that I have worked on several projects in the past where the installer needs to be able to install empty folders, so I don't consider this unusual.
