\"Run now\" does not work

Post by GeorgScholz »

Hello,

I recently shipped my first setup with IA-Express. Everything works, except for the option "Run Application now" (shown in the "finished" dialog at the end of the setup)

When this option is checked, nothing happens! No message - no hourglass - nothing. I found no option where this behaviour can be changed?

Thank you for your help

Hi Georg

I had the same issue but I resolved it by editing the MSICode directy. I added the below line toward the end of the script.

Just look for the Comment: below in your code and add a Run Program command below it.

Comment: TO-DO: Insert command that starts your application here
Run Program $PROGRAMFILES$\\MyAppName.exe

Hi Marco, thanks for you answer, but I am using the Express edition, where MSI editing is disabled!

Any other possibility?

This seems to be a bug ...

Best regards
Georg

Hi Georg,

Sorry I missed that you were using the Express edition, which you are right it does not handle the scripting. I am not sure what other options are there. You might want to notify InstallAware about it.

Marco,

Indeed, you cannot edit the script to run your application. What you can do is add a run program in design view and set it up to run after installation. Not being able to edit the msi script is a limitation of IA Express.

I'm having this problem too...

I am also running the Express edition and am running into this problem. The idea to put a "run program" at the end sounds good...but what if the user had unchecked the "run now"... sounds like this should simply be fixed with a hot fix or service pack if that's possible.

Did any of you guys hear back from tech support on this issue? What was any final resolution to this matter?

I have this issue too with the express edition. This is not a minor problem Installaware...our install looks silly since a) the run now is automatically checked and b) the application doesn't run.

Please provide a patch for this issue.

This is not a bug or problem in InstallAware.

Use the Run Programs visual designer which is available in Express, and pick the application to run.

You will be able to time it so it only runs when the checkbox is selected in the Finish dialog.

Sometimes its hard to see what's right in front of you ;)
