Install File Created Wont Uninstall

Post by ScottBM »

I get the attached Error message when I try to uninstall my test installation using InstallAware. When I run the uninstall from both the start menu as well as the add/remove programs options in the control panel. I get the 2 Gig memory error.

This should be checked upon installation right? I know I selected that its in the system minimum requirements.

This computer has more than enough memory. I have 3 gigs of ram available not used as well as over 300 gigsl of hard drive space available.

I know how to manually remove it from existance including registry/sys32 and such, however I would like to know if my users would experience this type of error as well if they tried to uninstall?

I made another install package without the minimum 2 gigs selected and did not recieve this error from uninstalling.

And 1 more thing, is it normal for a 2.46 gig install to take almost 20 mins to initialize file components upon installation?

Thanks for the help. =)

I'd run the setup under the debugger to see why it thinks you don't have enough memory! To do a clean uninstall, just change your revision code, do a rebuild, and let the new version automatically uninstall the old version (you can also remove the memory check in the new version, to be safe).

As for your other question...take a look at the Project Options dialog, compiler settings. Enable all optimizations and this will dramatically improve Windows Installer performance at runtime - helping you install and remove files much faster.

Also read the help file pre-defined compiler variables and pre-defined variables sections. There are some variables in there which will help you improve runtime Windows Installer performance.
