Media

The Media page offers a selection of build modes, encompassing a wide variety of distribution channels.

Uncompressed Directory Layout

The setup is comprised of a collection of uncompressed files and folders, spanning multiple directories, and several levels deep. This media type is ideally suited for software distribution on CDs/DVDs. Because no compression is applied, setup performance will be at maximum. However for the same reason, disk space requirements will also be highest.

The multiple levels of files and folders generated by this media type make it impractical for distribution over the Internet, or where single files are required to contain the entire installation.

Compressed Single Self-Installing EXE

The entire setup is packaged into a single executable file. When run, this executable file will first extract its contents onto a temporary location, and then start the installation. This is the most economical media layout in terms of disk space. Both because the entire setup is located inside a single file, and the superior compression employed, this media type is also ideal for Internet distribution.

Compressed Web-Based EXE

The setup is split into multiple web blocks, which are dynamically downloaded from the Internet at install time as required. Only the runtime components which the user does not already have, along with the features requested for the install, are downloaded. While the splitting reduces some of the compression gains, this media type offers the optimal performance, because of the selective download feature.

The setup is started by a single executable file which will download other blocks as necessary. The single file can be distributed on any medium, and the web blocks must be placed on a web server.

Build in Custom Folder

If you wish to change the build folder of your setup projects (default is the project folder), check Build in Custom Folder, and click Browse to choose the new build folder.
