I'm having an issue with one of my installers. When I run my installer it fails to install and displays a message box that just says "Error." It also puts an entry in the event log but the only information it has is the product name and the event ID. The event ID was 1013.
I've been able to narrow down the cause of this error to a specific build of my installer. If I run this installer on a system then try to run any other build the installer will fail even after uninstalling the "bad" installer.
The installer seems to fail after it finds the old install. So my question is, how does InstallAware find previous installs of the same software?
Installer fails to install with the error \"Error\"
I fixed my issue. Just to close the loop on this here's what I did. When I made the "bad" installer I changed the product version field from 4.0 to 4.0.34.2 which was the current build number of our application. On the next build I changed it back to 4.0. From that point on, installing over 4.0.34.2 fails. I fixed it by deleting the install using Microsoft's Windows Install Clean Up utility(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301) and running the newest installer again.
So there's my fix, now I'm wondering why this happens. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

IA finds older version of the same product by looking at the Product Code GUID. Take a look at http://www.installaware.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2893 for a solution
