Building a patch can't skip missing files?

Postby jimjdong » Thu Jan 17, 2008 2:43 pm

In the Project Options dialog, there is a page for Patch, it has an option "Ignore missing files". Could anyone tell me how it works?

I'm trying to create a patch with a single file change. My project has a bunch of components which are associated with files using wildcards, such as:
Feature A -> T:\\abc\\*.*
Feature B -> T:\\def\\*.*

We I build the patch, I only have a file in T:\\abc, but not in T:\\def.

InstallAware gives me the following error when I build the patch:
Error during build: No files matching pattern "T:\\def\\*.*"

Is that the InstallAware behavior or did I miss something?

Thanks.

Could anyone please help answer or comment on my previous question?

Basically I found regardless a regular build or patch build, InstallAware issues error messages when a source is missing, it can't just ignore it. Is that true?

Thanks.

jimjdong,

When you create a patch to replace only one single file, your patch project must include all original files besides the one you want to replace. This way IA will be able to compare the patch project with the original project, and it will include just the file you modified in the patch file.
