Add to an existing install

I've got a project with three components. Someone installed one of them and then realized that they needed another component. It made them unistall the first and then install both from scratch. Is there a way to leave the one that is already installed and just add the new component?

Yes - create setups that allow maintenance mode, and then just tell your users to add/remove features to the main installation in maintenance mode.
