Setup resource decompression failure

Postby you » Tue Jun 29, 2010 4:24 am

Hi,
Our Custumers have reported an issue: They used a chinese user account to install the exe. "Setup resource decompression failure" appeared. When they used an english user account to install the exe, all worked well.
We are using Installaware9 Studio.
Why this happened. Any help?

Make sure you're running the latest version of either v9 or v9 R2, only the first release had this problem.

My version is InstallAware9(Build Moya.sp1.070409).
So how could I update my IA?
Could I download InstallAware 9 R2 and install it.
Is it free, or we need buy a new lisence?

That release should work, so it seems you are using an older version license perhaps?

I'd just upgrade to v9 R2 since it is a free upgrade for you and you won't be able to obtain an older version license.

Sorry, what's your meaning. I couldn't understand it well.
If I update my IA to Installaware9 R2 , my license will be invalid?
Or I can install IA9 R2, and then run my activation files? Is this OK?

Excuse me for troubling you?

Just regenerate your license for v9 R2 :) Like I said, its a free upgrade. Install the v9 R2 trial in the correct edition before installing the license!

I have did all steps what you said:
1.Install the V9 R2 trial (studio)
2. regenerate my activation file by site of http://www.installaware.com/myinstallaware,and reinstall my activation file
Now I my version is :InstallAware9 R2(Build Moya.sp2.052710)

I am depressed to find that the error "Setup resource decompression failure" was still showed.
This reproduced by the following procedures:
0. Generate a compressed web-based "setup.exe"
1. New an account name "测试", which is a chinese user name
2. Run "setup.exe" under the user "测试"

So how to solve this problem. Look forward to your reply.

Very surprising, this issue was closed a long time ago - I've re-opened it to see what we can find out.

Also, can you reproduce this with any setup project, or does it happen with just yours?

It's X86 OS.

I just made a small Project (type: Basic Setup) and modified the following setings:
1.Application Information->Project Propertied->Target Folder: C:\
2.Setup Architecture->Files: Add a new created txt file ("New Text Document.txt") to $TARGETDIR$\TestInstall
3.Deployment->Buid Type: Compress Web-Based EXE

And then I generated the web-based exe file, and Loged on user account "测试", run the exe file. The error happended.

I'm unfortunately unable to reproduce this issue - based on the information provided, it should be working (I did test with the exact user name you provided here on a VM).

Can you provide access to your blank setup that still fails, so I can test it in my VM?

If that also doesn't reproduce, we'll need access to your environment.

I have attached a setup for you to test as well. Let me know if it runs?
