Translations cockup

Postby garyk » Thu Jan 26, 2012 2:52 am

I have translated my project to 6 languages.
Then I modified my project and had to re-export my project to translation files which moved things around so much in the translation files that I cannot use my old translations or even diff/merge the old and the new files.
I spent $1500 translating to 6 languages and now I can not use it !!!
I am not sure if to cry (of agony) or to laugh (in desperation).
Is there any solution to this problem? (I saw one post of someone going back to Install Shield because of the translation difficulties in IA).
Please help!

Hi,

The reference.* files located in the InstallAware folder (for example, C:\Program Files\InstallAware\InstallAware 2012) can be carefully modified to contain your base strings and their translated values. As long as you appends to each reference file the correct strings in the correct order, you can then use the Localization Wizard in the automatic mode to instantly translate your setup project from scratch again. It will require a bit of manual text file editing, but that's all it takes.

For more advanced localization solutions, check out Casic's Translation Manager Pro:

Let me get it straight.
I can add MY OWN strings to the reference files?
Where? At the end or anywhere?
What is the relation between these files and my project strings? I don't understand how it works and how to use it.
Please elaborate.

And why do you refer me to Translation Manager Pro, which feature exactly can benefit me with my particular problem?

Regards
Gary

Gary,

Add your strings to the end of the reference file, one line at a time, and in the same order in all files, and if there isn’t corresponding items for some languages, paste the English strings in there instead.
