Handling custom dialogs across projects.

Postby ErikB » Mon Mar 20, 2006 8:54 am

Hi,

Do you (or anyone ;)) have any guidelines as to how to manage multiple custom dialogs across projects.

My situation is as follows: we have a number of different installation projects, all of which use custom dialogs (but one theme). Some custom dialogs are shared, other's aren't. Now I am having great difficulty creating new dialogs (based on existing ones as most of the time it is only a textual change). Often I end up overwriting dialogs or having my changes appear in the Dialogs\\<theme>\\Custom folder but not in my <installation project> folder.

What can I do to make life easier for myself??

Erik

I think the best thing is to make your own theme, and store it in the dialogs subfolder of your main InstallAware folder. You could even add the information text file and the "ad" graphic so your theme integrates with the IDE. Then, when creating new projects, or re-theming templates, you could just pick that theme.

The Dialog Designer might be tricky - just be careful where you're saving files. Your project folder contains your project dialogs, whereas the InstallAware folder contains the themes.
