unable to uninstall old version

Postby IanM » Mon Apr 10, 2006 5:58 am

One of our users is getting an unable to uninstall message and is advised to use Control Panel to remove the package

This too fails.

Any advice on manually unistalling the package? Is it as simple as delting installed files or will I need to tweak registry settings?

Posting the actual error message, or other available details, might help resolve the issue.

Or, you can just delete all files and registry settings, and then use msizap to remove Windows Installer's knowledge of the tool.

Hi Michael,

The error message was completely vague,

“unable to uninstall old version of GP Accounts. Please uninstall it yourself using control panel add-remove programs before attempting to install this product”.

Fatal error during installation.

Thanks for the other suggestions that will help, I didn't know about MsiZap.

That error message probably comes from a merge module, or your setup script - I don't think IA produces such a message.
