Generate license for minor versions?

Postby rev23dev » Sat Feb 23, 2013 8:56 pm

Every time a new version is released, i.e. IA 15.3.2 to 15.3.3, I always go to myinstallaware.com and generate a new license. Do I need to do that every time, or do I just need to do it for the major versions? Always wondered, never asked.

Thanks!

Good question! Like you, I always generate a new licence when a new release version is posted on the downaload site. I think you also need to do it when a sort of red flag bug fix is announced in which case the licence file is all you need to generate. I have noticed on a couple of occasions that if I generate a new licence file it can sometimes differ in size to one I've already got it for that release. Whether that means some off-radar fixes have been made I don't know. At this time, I generate a new licence every two or three months and if its size differs then I apply it. I don't know for certain if we decide when to download it or wait until a major release version is posted or if someone at IA says we should?

I'd also like to know for sure.

Dear Guys,

If the released update only contains modification to the InstallAware cores functionality (as for example upgrading to the last 15.41 version from 15.33), it is enough to run the regenerated license file.

Otherwise, if the update contains also modification to IA redistributable Runtimes files for example, you have to install the new package also.

In any case, I suggest to you to download always the new Installer package available and to keep it in a safe place along with your personal license file.
In order to have a complete installation set for any possible future use.

Regards.
