Patch never update and is large

Postby aimcorp » Sat Sep 20, 2014 9:43 am

Hello everybody

This is my problem. I build a setup file with all files. Run the setup file on a test computer. Installation works fine.

Then I copied the original setup file to another folder, let called \VersionOne

Then I made a small change in the application source code, then I compiled the new installation file once again (after compilation of course, the main .exe file have a new daytime)... Then I did the Patch using both files, the new one and the original that is sitting on \VersionOne folder.

Patch file is done.

Now; when I run the installation of the patch on the test computer, the main file .exe never gets updated. It remains with same old date and time and the original has a new time. So again when I run the application of course it will ask for update, since never got updated.

Beside for a small change the patching file is too large, like 6.80mb.

Any ideas?

Dear User,

about your patched EXE file, does it include version attributes?

The Windows Installer Engine prefers files where version attributes are available and in some circumstances when these are not available, the Windows Installer Engine may have difficulty to handle files differences correctly.

This matter has been widely discussed in the forum and I may suggest you to have a look at the following link ( ... my last reply);

About the patch file size and if the patch project has been created correctly, it should contain only the binary difference that exist between, the files originally included with the base project and their new version with the patch.
