Silently overwrite files

Thank you for the quick reply.
I believe I have resolved the problem described in the final two paragraphs I originally wrote above, so I have removed them for clarity. [I had removed the Repair and Modify options from the Maintenance dialog,to force the user to uninstall when running the installer a second time. However I had not set the REPAIR and MODIFY variables to FALSE.]

The original question still stands, so to answer your question:

This works:
1. Build installer and run on customer site.
2. MODIFY some of the files files in the installer and rebuild it.
3. Run installer; at Maintenance dialog select 'Modify' or 'Repair'. The updated files gets installed.
4. Go to step 2.

This does not work, due to the error in Step 3:
1. Build installer and run on customer site.
2. ADD NEW FILES to the installer and rebuild it.
3. Run installer; at Maintenance dialog select 'Modify' or 'Repair'. The installer reports 'The system could not find the file specified'.

It would be convenient if I could work around the error message in Step 3 above, other than having to ask the user uninstall and then install again.
I hope that is clearer. The need for this is to be able to easily install files at a test site, in a product which is undergoing development changes.

I am very sorry, but my my concerns are still the same.

I really don't understand if you are trying to update your files, while running the package in maintenance mode.

For what I see you are still referring to this as reported at your Step 3.

That said, this of course will raise an error (because your updated files can't be available ... they haven't been installed yet).
At lest, you should un-install the installed package as first and then to install the new one.
By the way, this is exactly what a standard package update does.

I hope to have not missed anything.

Thank you Francesco; we'll continue to have the customer uninstall and then reinstall. At least now I know I'm not missing something.
We have not taken the approach of having a standard update package as you mention, as I assume we would need this in addition to our main installer (and we are trying to cover our needs with just one installer). Even so, this is an area I should learn more about.
