Which SDK function will I run? COM Interop

Postby GordonS » Wed Feb 28, 2007 7:58 am

Hi,

I'm just evaluating InstallAware an amd quite encouraged.

I had a problem, though, on an install that might be related to what IA installs.

My COM interop stuff didn't register properly. I think from stuff I've read elsewhere in these fora that I need to run aegasm and gacutil after installation to do the COM Interop registration iton the GAC.

On the target I'm presently using, after installation, I had both command available, but regasm was from SDK v2.0 and gacutil eas from SDK v1.1. These two versions appear to be incompatible with each other and/or incompatible with VS2005 assemblies.

If I understand correctly, IA installs the SDK v2.0, however it appears to have _not_ installed gacutil v2.0.

Is there a means that I can ensure that I have the right and matching versions of regasm and gacutil installed?

Is it still true that I must run these command using the "Run Programs" options and that "Register Assembly" doesn't handle COM Interop registration?

Thanks,
Gordon.

 Oh yes. Of course there is!

I just install the programs where I expect them and call them as I want.
I read elsewhere that AI/MSI won't let me overwrite files I shouldn't, so that should all be safe and reliable.
