Dialog not shown

Postby IntelliServ » Tue Mar 27, 2007 4:10 pm

I'm seeing a weird problem on one computer (it seems to be only that one computer). A user installs a bunch of features and then runs the installer again. He chooses add/remove features and clicks next. Sometimes (not always) the component selection dialog (the one it should show) doesn't appear. He may wait there for a long time and pieces (buttons, labels, title bars, etc) will slowly start to appear. I played around with it and found that when this happens you can push ctrl+shift+esc to bring up the process manager, drag the process manager window over the area where the dialog should be, and it will show up. So apparently the installer knows it is supposed to be displaying the dialog but won't paint it. If anyone has heard of anything like this or knows where to look for help it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there,

Very strange!

What Operating Systems are you using?
Have you checked the graphics card drivers? I've normally seen this with other windows applications with dodgy drivers...

Thanks much for the reply and the idea (btw it was Win XP SP2). The driver on that machine was really old. Although needing that solution pointed out to me makes me feel like I called tech support when I just needed to plug in the computer.

No problem - I still hit this one myself, and it's only when someone else mentions the drivers that I think of it myself ;)
