Invalid class string, ProgID: \"eSellerateControl.350\"

Postby ian » Thu Mar 08, 2007 9:53 am

Hi,

I have installed InstallAware Express on Windows Vista Ultimate. When running the application, I get the abovementioned error message. Although the application continue to open after clicking "OK", I am not able to work since the "Application Information" window remains the active window, even when selecting a different node from the tree. I also receive the same error message when clicking on "Help"->"Licensing".

Any ideas how to resolve this error?

Thanks,
Ian.

Strange; I have not seen this one before, and I'm running IA on Vista.

Can you confirm the version that you are using?

Hi Ian,

Can you upgrade to the latest v6 release?

Dev team tells me that problem should be resolved...

I have download and installed the latest version from your site (Help-About reports 6.32). The problem however remains. Any other suggestions (PLEASE)?

Thanks,
Ian.

My previous attempt (downloading the latest version) was done using the "Web Based Download" (the +-9MB installation). I have now downloaded the "Single File Download" (the +- 250MB installation), and reinstalled IA Express. The problem has been resolved.

It appears that the two installations do not install the same version.

Thanks for your replies.

Ian.

Exactly the same problem here.

Postby Gluber » Sat Mar 17, 2007 10:09 am

I have got the exact same problem:

Symptoms are:

During startup of Installaware ( at the splash screen ) i get a message box
"Invalid class string, ProgID: "eSellerateControl.350"

After that IA starts but the splash screen stays in the background and all "Tabs" or whatever you call them stay locked, meaning when i create a new project i cant' show the pages for any of them ( e.g Summary Information,Files,Registry and so on )
Basically IA is unusable at this point.

My setup: Vista Ultimate with all Updates,
IA: InstallAware Version 6.4 (Build santacruz_sp2.031207)
Installed from the "Full" 250 MB installer ( Not the web version )

I tried running it as administrator, in WinXP SP2 Compatiblity mode, to no avail...

Anyone got a clue ?

Not sure if this will help, but try running the installation with UAC disabled/switched off.

I installed 6.4 (Full Installation) with UAC disabled on Vista Ultimate (after I had the same problem as you describe).

Thanks for your tip, but i already tried that.

I ran it ( the installation and the program itself ( full not web installation ) )
with UAC elevated and with UAC completly switched off. ( The user has admin rights of course )

If possible, can you regenerate your license and reapply?

Thought it might be ;)

The dev team tell me that its down to permissions.

When you installed, were you prompted for elevated permissions?

Can you double check the permissions on the installation directory?

Any news on a fix?

I'm running Vista Ultimate (all latest updates) with IA trial version 6.4 Build santacruz_sp2.031207

We want to switch from InstallShield 12 Premier, so far the "grass hasn't been all that green!" :?

Thanks,

Imran

Try installing WiXAware - that should help.

So far we've been unable to figure out what causes the conflict on the user systems where this problem is experienced. Sorry!

Maybe if you could provide more details on what's installed on your system, if the same issue occurs on clean machinls, and so on, we can find out more.
