Creating PreRequisites

Postby MLS » Wed Apr 11, 2007 5:28 am

I wish to create a prerequsite I did mention in another topic.

I wish to make some extra prerequisits for components that our applications use so we don't have to include them into the main web download.

I belive that you can create a MSI which does the installation but how do you get install aware to recognise this as a prerequisite in the normal listing.

Also I would need to define dependant packages as well I presume?

Pre-req creation is fairly straight forward.

First, start off with your installer for your component - either exe or msi.

Then, have a look in your InstallAware installation directory - there is a directory called runtimes. All the pre-requisites that IA knows about are located in here.

They consist of:
Files (in a folder)
check script (mia file)
setup script (mia file)
"Details" for IA (rtm file)

A good example of the process is detailed here:

Hope this helps!

There is also a white paper available on how to create your own prereq package. Check on the main website.

Thanks, and sorry I missed the white paper! :)
