mia.dll not found, can't launch InstallAware

Postby Christoph Schneegans » Thu Apr 26, 2007 4:07 am

Hello!

I've just upgraded from 6.42 to 6.50. The installation itself succeeded, but I can't launch InstallAware anymore! The error message reads as follows: "This application has failed to start because mia.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."

Before the installation of InstallAware 6.50, I backed up the "trans" folder and some custom scripts in the "runtimes" folder. After the installation, I copied these files back to "%programfiles%\\InstallAware\\InstallAware 6.5". Might this be the cause of my problem? Maybe some file formats have changed?

Your license file and installed version are out of sync.
Install the latest versions of both the trial installer and the license file.

I am afraid this is not the reason. In the meantime, I did a complete uninstall of InstallAware and also deleted the program folders. I then installed InstallAware 6.5 again. It launched successfully. I then installed the license file, and IA was still able to launch. Finally, I copied my backup files back to the "trans" folder. After that, I got the missing DLL message. Furthermore, restoring the files "trans" to their original state does not "heal" IA. Strange, isn't it?

The reason I have described can be the only real reason for you to get the error. There is nothing in the trans folder that might cause this to happen - and I do not know if you backed up any additional files in additional to the trans folder which might be overwriting files from InstallAware's latest version when you restore your backup.

My backup folder consists of 40 files. This is the very number of files in the "trans" folder after a fresh InstallAware 6.5 installation. I did not change any other files.

I've generated my license again, and it seems to work now. Thanks.

What if one does not have thier origional purchase e-mail due to an exchange server crash a few months ago?

EDIT - Its ok.. I just found the details/code, I'll take scribbled pieces of paper over e-mail anyday :-)
