Check if MSDE 2000 is on a system.

Hello,

Is there any way to check if MSDE 2000 is on a system? If yes: Backup data (databases), remove MSDE 200, install SQL 2005 and replace data. If not: Install SQL 2005.

Something like that. Is that possible?

Should be possible indeed Use Check Service to reliably locate the MSDE 2000 instance using its service name. If found, use the SQL plug-ins to run scripts which backup and later restore the data. And of course the SQL Express runtime can install the new version for you too.
