The feature you are trying to use is on a...

Postby Mark Fulford » Tue Jul 10, 2007 4:21 pm

We now have 2 out of 2 installations, built in IA 6.6, where we've seen the error "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable"...

The setup gives an error that the path
C:\\DOCUME~1\\COMPAQ~1\\LOCALS~1\\Temp\\mia33.tmp\\data\\CC3Setup.msi cannot be found, and asks us to browse for an alternative source.

Odd in several ways:

1. The setup is called CC3Patch3. The file it is requesting, CC3Setup.msi, is from a different setup (in this case the previously run setup, which was also created in 6.6).

2. CC3Setup.msi exists, but in Local Settings\\Temp\\mia43.tmp, not the folder the setup is defaulting to.

3. CC3Patch3.msi also exists, but in Local Settings\\Temp\\mia1. That folder contains the dialog boxes but no data files.

4. The data files for the setup are sitting in Local Settings\\Temp\\mia43.tmp\\data\\OFFLINE\\56338C87\\F080CF72 (so underneath CC3Setup, not CC3Patch3.

5. If you click Cancel, rather than browse for the msi file, the setup continues correctly...

6. When run a second time, the setup fails with the same error except, this time, the CC3Setup.msi file does not exist. The files for the setup are now in Local Settings\\Temp\\mia55.tmp, this time with the data folder underneath it, rather than in a completely different folder.

It seems that the setup is getting very confused over which folders to be using.

Ran into that as well.

I ran into the same problem when I first started using IA. Later found it was me and it was a simple fix. It was some syntax errors in editing an INI file or when modifying files before Apply Install.

Thanks for the suggestion but it's not the case here. The setup is quite simply copying a bunch of files into a folder.

Can you provide some reproducible steps to create this problem?
