Problems building IA projects on network drives on Windows 7

Postby smndk » Tue Nov 18, 2014 8:06 am

Hi

When I build by old IA projects on Windows 7, all files included in the setup (except for dll-files) are added with a size of zero bytes. When I run the generated setup it will install all the files, but they will have a size of zero bytes. The setup file itself is equally smaller than it should be.

Normally I have created and build my IA projects on an XP or Vista machine and this still works fine, but we now need to build on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 machines as well. If I recreate my IA projects from scratch it will work on Windows 7 and 8.1, but it is not an option to recreate all my projects.

This problem is driving me nuts and seems very odd to me. I gather the problem lies in the mpr or mia files, Everything looks fine in miae.exe.

I am using IA 11 and IA 15. I am experiencing the same problems with both.

I hope somebody can help.

Kind regards,
Svend

Dear Svend,

did you installed all the InstallAware feature on your new machine?

Anyway, if your project still builds fine with your previous XP or Vista machine, it can't be a problem caused by the project file itself.

I may suggest you to verify if any Anti Virus application may be at the source of your issue ... it seems so.

Hi

Thank you very much for your answer. You are quite right that it isn't the project file itself that causes this problem. I have now discovered that the projects occasionally builds without problems on Windows 7, but mostly it doesn't. I have also discovers that the problem only appears when building on a network drive. It is though pretty important for us to build our projects on network drives. Do you have any idea how network drives can trigger this weird behavior?

We have tried to disable virus scanner on both client and server, but it doesn't solve the problem.

Kind regards,
Svend

Dear Svend,

unfortunately very often it is not enough to disable the Anti-Virus, if you want to be 100 % sure, it must be removed or you should install the package over a clean machine.

I personally had an issue with Visual Studio due the AV (which I have used for years without any problem) and it was not enough to disable it.
