Service won't stop

I need to stop a service before uninstall. This service is mine and I want to stop it and have the uninstall continue so that it deletes all of the installed files, including the service executable.

I use a ControlService to stop on uninstall and wait for completion (and have also tried stop on install/wait) and neither work. I moved these statements directly *before* the ApplyInstall, ApplyUninstall.

These statements do work for another service that I tried but not mine. Yes, mine can be stopped fine from ServiceManager or script, etc.

What does happen, however, is that the uninstall removes my service executable even though the service is still running (I don't know how it does this). After uninstall I can go to ServiceManager and stop the service with no problem.

Very strange, any ideas?
