Web Update Schedule in Main Setup?

Postby peter_ashworth » Thu Nov 16, 2006 7:38 am

Is it possible to move the web updates schedule (and other associated wizard pages) into the main setup installation? The default behaviour of InstallAware is to prompt the user for this information on their next log on. I would like to move it into the main install so that everything appears to be in one place.

Also, how do I allow the user to change their schedule?

Thanks, in advance, for your help

Hi Peter,

Just like Windows Update, there are links in the pre-built dialogs which the user can click when interacting with an update; this lets them revise their update schedule.

You can also get rid of the scheduler altogether if you like, and merge the process with the main setup. To do this, just customize the dialogs to match the rest of your setup theme (if you want to), and then edit the script update.mia in the MSIcode view to take everything out that has to do with scheduling and keep everything in that has to do with actually updating.

The update process is not a black box, so you have all you want in an easily customizable form - you have access to both the update script and the dialogs; which you can freely customize to your heart's content :)
