error creating patch

I'm currently trying to create a patch and am receiving the following error:

Error during build: Unable to create patch database [This patch contains multiple transform sets and is a mixture of QFE, minor, and/or major patches.]

We have build two patches previously for this release, and have not received this error before. we are using the 6.0 build of InstallAware, due to backwards compatability problems with the newer version and patches.

i had this error when creating a quickpatch in installshield (note that the error comes from msimsp.exe, not installshield, though). it was fixed by pure fluke:

i changed the way i updated the product version string:

the original product version was 6.10.1.510 and i had set the updated version to 6.10.1.511, which caused the error. when i changed it to 6.10.2.511, the error disappeared, and the patch file was built! It appears that only the first three items of the product version are used when making version comparisons.
