Corrupted Text in Progress Dialogs using InstallAware 6.5

Postby stevep » Sat Apr 21, 2007 7:18 pm

After installing the new 6.5 version and recompiling my program I noticed corrupted characters in the progressprereq dialog box when downloading or installing any Runtimes or Web Media Blocks. The other dialog boxes are readable however and it does seem to install still but it looks very bad.

If I go back to version 6.42 and recompile then everything is fine. :?

As a followup I am using 2 of the new features in version 6.5. I am not sure if this is what is causing the problem.

1) SetVariable COPYWEBLOCK = $EXEDIR$

2) Added a password to the Authenticode in the Project Options form.

Could you attach a screenshot of the corruption?

Sorry, I didn't take a screen shot and since then I uninstalled 6.5 and reinstalled 6.42 to get back running again. It was pretty obvious and you will see if it you create a new project and compile a Web Based build with a few Application Runtimes.

If you can't figure it out I can go back to 6.5 and do it again but how do I insert a screen shot into this post without hosting it on a web server first?

I tried what you said, no corruption. I did test on both virtual machines and real machines, Vista and XP and 2003, so quite curious what the issue looks like at your end.

If you can email me a screenshot or post one here using the attachment feature, that'd be great. I've attached a screenshot on Vista using the new glass and showing correct download progress.

I downloaded 6.5 again and reinstalled it and now it seems to be ok. I am not sure what caused it but it was there and now it's fine.

I guess I spoke too soon. Here is a screen shot of the corrupted text. This seems to only appear on a clean install of Windows XP when it tries to download a Web Media Block like .NET 2.0 from the Internet. The Progress Bar dialog is the only dialog that shows this corrupted text.

What do you think?

Are you using a custom font or a font from Office that might not be installed on your target machine?

I see corruption on XP in the Installaware 6.5 installation package itself - see attached. The Feature selection dialog was also corrupt with no text displayed in the Feature Selection boxes.

This was installing on a clean VM with just Winxp SP2 and Dotnet2.0 installed.

No, I am using the default dialog box supplied with InstallAware and no custom font. I have not changed anything. Keep in mind this works perfectly fine in version 6.42. If I upgrade to 6.5 I see this corruption and if I go back to 6.42 it goes away. So there is something wrong in version 6.5.

Ok now I am seeing this.

Since I CodeSigned my install I now see corrupted text everywhere. And the Cancel dialog is empty when I hit the Cancel Button.

Thios could not have come at a worse time for me as I need to send my install to get mastered tomorrow.

Looks like I have to go back to 6.42
