Rumors from the InstallAWARE Dev Team

Postby Gizm0 » Wed May 02, 2007 5:47 pm

Ok, i had some private chats during the day with some guys from InstallAWARE Developer Team and i have some really good news. Although things are not very clear yet, i can safely say that a couple of new features will be added on the next release which is going to be in about a couple of days or so. I really liked the 3 described below, which have been requested during the past days on this forum and are surely gonna be implemented:

1) A new extended If command letting you check if a variable is defined or not. This is going to be used with persistent variables mostly.
2) A new script command for .net to automatically remove unpinned assemblies from GAC during uninstall.
3) A completely new, revamped and re-designed project wizard creator.

Stay tunned. I might have some more news. ;)

Gizmo,

An update just came out a few days ago. Good to hear this project is under constant development.

Since you seem to a dude in the know, maybe you could answer this for me...

I have an installation that when compressed takes up about 50 Megabytes. The installation works fine, except early in the Install a progress message displays saying Windows Installer and the progress bar sets itself to 100%. This will stay that way for up one half of the installation time. I change the Progressbar Type to Marquee and then set it back to null, the Margues stays that way through the rest of the installation. After it goes away the main program files are installed.

I was thinking this may be the point of where Merge-Modules were installed so I incorporated them directly ito the code and if anything it looks as if it made it worst.

What is actually going on at this point? In the Installer code it appears to be right after the Apply Install etc... commands.

This part executes after installation of PreReq's.

Thanks,

Steve

Very strange.. Can you provide a screenshot of both behaviors? Marquee and the 100% on the Windows Installer? It's really something on your code, i can't explain it otherwise..
