.msi setup installation file and setup.exe

Hello!
What's the difference between the .msi setup installation file and the .exe
setup file for my project? Both were building to the same thing. Can you give the diffreneces in detail.

The MSI is your Windows Installer setup database that contains all your setup information, which carries out the actual installation on the machine. The EXE is your bootstrapper which performs tasks like installing application runtimes, handling 7zip compression, partial web deployment, and so on. Both are required for your setup.
