specify form images / resources via compiler variable

Postby mmiron » Wed Aug 01, 2007 9:35 am

Just wondering if InstallAware supports the ability to assign a compiler variable to a form's UI asset; eg: image?

Or is there a preferred method of allowing branding of a common setup application with multiple UI forms via the command line build?

What i'm trying to accomplish is if we build for brand XXX that the setup uses the XXX graphics on its forms; and if we build for brand YYY then the setup uses the YYY graphics on it's forms.

Thanks,
Marc.

This is a good question. Currently, this is not automatically possible.
What can be done is to perhaps pre-build all possible dialogs separately; and then add them all to the same project; and then selectively show the right dialogs based on compiler variable vales.

I could see that if you knew of the dialogs before hand; but if you where building the base installer and just wanted to customize it at a later time (new art arives, different branding, etc...) - you'd really want the ability to simply swap out the selected UI resource.

My assumption is that the image originally selected is only referenced from hard disk the first time you select it; after that its embedded in the specific form; so even if you updated the hard drive (sourced) image; the form's image will not reflect this?

The idea is that people who deliver the new art or branding aren't aware of the installer Forms or details, just that once magically compiled the installer will have the new art added.

Thoughts?

I'd like to know if this is possible or on the *next version of AI* or any possible work around -
