How to use Companion Files

Postby Bob T Bunny » Mon Aug 06, 2007 7:50 pm

Hi all,

I have about 150 zip files that I need to install with our program, and reliably overwrite every time (once a month). I have read, and understand, the file versioning rules for Windows Installer http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa368599.aspx

There will be some other zip files in the folder, put there by the user, which will not be replaced (they're not in my installation), so deleting all zip files before creating them doesn't seem to be the best option to me.

I see that I could use "companion files" to install them, by making my zip files companions of a versioned file which will be installed (update that file to version 7.08 this month, 7.09 next month, etc). Can someone tell me how set up companion files in InstallAware?

Thanks,

Bob T

Does the lack of response mean InstallAware doesn't support companion files, a Windows Installer feature?

Can a moderator or someone "in the know" confirm or deny, so that I can give up looking and try something else?

Thanks,

Bob T
