My client just brought a license for InstallAware and we just found out that the current package for the ReportViewer 2005 Redistribution package is a really old version. How can I update the package so that when I check to include the ReportViewer 2005 Redistribution package it uses the latest and greatest.
I know I could include the package in my install and execute the exe as part of the install, but I'd rather have it be integrated so all I have to do is check the box to install the ReportViewer component.
On a similar note, is there a download area where users who have a license to InstallWare can download the prerequisite installation package? This would allow updates for the installation packages to be posted and when new ones are added a place to get those if they are needed by the user.
ReportViewer 2005 Redistribution Package
Any Help??
Does anyone have any input on the best way to resolve this. Below are the options I think I have in the order of preference.
1) Be able to download the latest prerequisite package from InstallAware so that after I install it the option show up to install the ReportViewer SP1 (and have the check either install the upgrade or the full package based on whether the ReportViewer is installed or not. It would be awesome if there was a download area where InstallAware users could download individual prerequiste packages so that they had the flesibility of only installing the packages they use. This would also allow InstallAware to post new packages such as .Net 3.5, etc when they are available.
2) Create my own prerequisite package based on the latest installation files for the ReportViewer. I would need some guidance on how to do this.
-- How to create the prerequiste package.
-- How to register the package so it show up on the list of available prequisites.
-- How to write the check so either the upgrade package is installed or the full package is installed. How to check the version number that is installed.
3) Just included the latest install package for the ReportViewer and run it from the installation script. Would at least want to check the version number installed so that this can be skipped if the latest version is already installed.

I would recommend you to try option 3. That is the easiest way to do it. However, if you would like to try option two, you will need to read http://www.installaware.com/installawar ... s_view.pdf

How would I check to see what version number of the ReportViewer is installed if I did do option #3?
