Batch file problems

Postby Roostar2004 » Wed Dec 12, 2007 3:06 pm

I have been informed by some of the people at Install-aware that your program has trouble running some batch files? Is this something that you working to resolve or not?
Here is my situation. I am installing SQL 2005 Express SP2 and then I run batch file to create the DB. For some reason no matter how I run it either run program or run program as, run the batch file correctly. it opens the batch file and then closes it a second later. I have even tried using the install-aware SQL script runner and it has the same effect. I know that it can not be the script that is bad because if I wait for the installer to finish and then run the batch file by hand it works just like it should.

I am not sure if it has something to do with the SQL install or not seeing as how if I have a preexisting install of SQL Express the batch file run fine from the installer. Has any one else had problems like these?

Roostar2004,

I don't think you are having a problem with batch files here. My guess is that you are not running the batch at the right time. If you can successfully run the batch file after the installation, try running it at the end of the installer. Remember that the SQL service must be started before runnning a script.

I have tried running it at all points in the installer. I have done it after the apply install like install-aware suggests. I have had it run after the completion of the install set, I have had it run after SQL has installed. I have had it run in every possible place that I can think of to have it run and it always has the same affect, it opens the batch file and then closes it 2 sec later.

Also I have in the command line install that the services are set to auto run. Both the SQL Server and the SQL Browser are running after the SQL 2005 Express install as finished.

Does installaware not have an answer to this problem? It seems odd that installaware will run some batch files but not other. I would find that to be a big flaw in the application. I would still like to know if this issue is going to be addressed in the next release of install-aware.

I know that this does not seem like a big problem but it is. We switched from install-shield to install-aware because we liked the features that you offered. The only problem is because of this issue we are still using out install-shield build because it is more reliable. It will run all of the batch files that we put into it. I like your product but if this issue can't be resolved we will most likly have to go back to install shield.
