Issues with Installaware 2005 Express 2nd Edition

Postby eddy2099 » Thu Nov 24, 2005 2:13 am

I was just building my first installer.

Here are some observations.

1) I cannot find any details in the Help File as to which .HTM File is needed for each dialogs.

2) When I checked a default README dialog and ran the installation, it tells me to add 'Readme..txt', 'Readme.txt' or 'Readme.rtf' to the Creatives. I tried doing that but those files are not accepted. When I changed it to 'Readme.htm', it got accepted. I did this through a trial and error.

If only certain types of files can be added to the Creative, you might want to set the 'File of Type' to those specific file extension.

3) Having 'Welcome', 'Licensecheck' and 'Readme' and a host of other dialogs checked, when I ran the installer and after the 'License' dialog shows, there was a brief instance for another 'License' page which just shows the word 'License' in the Memo box but that was just a brief moment. If I navigate backwards again, that page no longer shows. It only shows up during the first run.

Thought you should know.

Incidentally, one of the web block is 'MSIRUN' is this common amongst all the installation made with this version of Installaware because I thought if it is the same, I only need to deploy a copy on my website.

Thanks.

1) index.htm is needed for your progress dialog only.
2) readme.htm, are you sure? You need to add readme.rtf or readme.txt, the other ones are needed only if you are doing multi-lingual setups.
3) The flicker should occur only when debugging.

You can absolutely share your web media blocks across setups - that is part of the beauty of them.

Oops, I just realized I was working with version 1 all along.

So just to confirm, with EULA and Readme, I would use RTF or TXT files and with License and Progress, it would be HTM ?

EULA = end user license agreement = License
For readme and license, use readme.rtf/.txt and license.rtf/.txt
For progress, use index.htm or movie.swf - based on the theme you chose
