Linux hosting

Postby TDWiseley » Mon Feb 16, 2009 11:00 am

I'm trying to get the web deploy functionality to work on a Linux host. I've got it working on a Windows host. On the Linux host, I simplified the file names (no spaces, etc., 3 character extension), and still can't get it to work. Do you have general guidelines for getting it to work on a Linux host?

Always try and see what happens when you try to download the web media block file from your favorite browser. If that doesn't work, it's a sure sign something is mis-configured on the server, preventing it from serving your file. File extensions are often an issue with IIS which refuses to serve undefined MIME types (such as 7ZIP and INI), which is resolved by defining those file types inside the IIS management console. I suspect something similar might be going on with your Linux host.

They are all using the ".zip" extension, and can be manually downloaded using IE7. Next?

Can you check in the apache log how the files were requested?
