Problem with upgrade to Pro -- Unable to render action...

Postby wirecad » Fri Dec 30, 2005 1:15 pm

I just upgraded to the developer version and am a bit concerned. I can't seem to get it up and running. I get an error message that it is unable to render action, be sure required plugin is installed. This happens on startup and when I try to open an existing project. When I create a new win32 script things appear to work, but that does not help me.

Help!

Thanks,
CBH

Hi CBH

Can you please check your Developer installation, to confirm that you have installed all necessary plug-ins required by your installation?

Also, did you upgrade from an older version (older than 5.0)? If so, please read the "Upgrading from InstallAware 2005 Second Edition" topic in the help file, the topic is located under the "What's New" book in the help contents.

If you upgraded your edition, there is no need for concern - the IDEs use the same core, and you should be able to open Express projects created in 5.0 with higher editions without any issues (provided you installed all required plug-ins of course, the IDE will indicate the name of the missing plug-in in this case).

Please let me know if you need more help!

I installed my license and now I can't run the app at all. I am attaching screen shot of the error.
The procedure entry point MSIDBWrap_SetCommitConst cound not be located in the dll MSIDBWrap.dll.

I have unistalled and reinstalled. no change.

This has been a painful upgrade. Please help.

Thanks,

Can you please provide more information?

1) What was the last version and edition you had installed
2) What is the current version and edition you installed

Thanks...we'll get this sorted.

Also, re-reading your post, I have a hunch that you installed an older version of InstallAware (which perhaps you had downloaded previously), and then tried to open a project created in a newer version. Is this possible?

According to the product team the error message you mention occurs only if an older than 5.0 version of InstallAware is used with an InstallAware 5.0 license.

I hope this helps shed some more light...

Now I'm getting frustrated. The product that I am trying to install is that that I downloaded by following the links provided through the purchase process.

I am so frustrated that I am about to throw weeks worth of work in the trash and purchase the competion's product if I don't get some help here.

On the surface this product appears to do what is needed, but as I dig deeper I found that I needed to upgrade just to get basic functionality. ex. deselecting a runtime package after the project has been built.

So I spent the money to upgrade, and hopefully not waste weeks of time, and I find that I can't even get the program to run.

How happy am I?

I would appreciate an email with the link to download the product that I have purchased. I'm done guessing.

Dear Wirecad

We cannot help you unless you provide us the information required to troubleshoot the problem. I have already provided various ideas to solve your issue, and asked for clarifications -- you have provided no clarifications and you have not said what the outcome of my suggestions were (in fact, I don't even know if you tried them).

I am not sure how you expect this relationship to work under these circumstances, if your intention is to just get a refund, please contact our sales department and they will gladly arrange it for you.

oh drama! seems wierd that the whole world has to read this.

some deep breathing is needed.

there is a slight logic problem with your request, wirecad. If you are ready to delete everything and rekey into a competitors product then why don't you just rekey your project from scratch into installAWARE. You said that works in your first post; and you can avoid the purchasing stress that you seem to be attracting. And also you could try the obvious thing of installing on a different PC. Anyway, you'll live longer if you don't get yourself all worked up.

I have used all of the competitor products. They are all more buggy than this one, i am certain of that.

Happy New Year!
